Out on the circuit with Phoenix
A round-up from the road
It’s been a busy few weeks for us out on the networking circuit. Our Business Development Manager, Peter, has been clocking up the miles across Sussex and the Gatwick Diamond shaking hands, swapping stories, and (occasionally) battling the elements. We thought we’d pull it all together into one round-up for you.
Brighton & Hove Business Show
Not even gusty winds nor rain showers could keep us away from Mike Monk’s Brighton & Hove Business Show at the Amex Stadium ,a firm ‘must attend’ in our calendar (even after a near-miss with the car park bushes nearly claiming all of Peter’s prep notes).
As ever, it was beautifully organised and brilliantly attended the kind of event that’s become known for great stands, sharp talks and genuinely high-level networking. Peter caught up with plenty of familiar faces and made a host of new connections, many of whom we’re confident the Phoenix team can support as they grow. Here’s to doing it all again at Mike’s next one: the Gatwick Business Show in October.

Gatwick Business Diamond May Meeting
They say once you’re in with Gatwick Diamond Business, you’re never quite out and so it proved again at the gdb May Members Meeting, held this time at The Europa Gatwick Hotel. Half-term or not, the room was packed.
Brett North gave an energetic run-through of everything the Gatwick Diamond is involved with, before Karen Jefford took the mic to spotlight Electric Storm Youth a fantastic West Sussex charity supporting young people aged 10 to 18 with a safe, inclusive space to build confidence, learn new skills (including tech and AI) and grow. With a strong turnout of new members, regulars and guests, the lunch networking was as lively and wide-ranging as ever.
Networking morning at HaydenSwan Eyecare
A big thank you to Claire Hayden and the team at HAYDENSWAN Eyecare for hosting a memorable networking morning. Live demonstrations, expert insights into eye care, warm hospitality and good coffee made the whole thing feel less like a meeting and more like a gathering of friends the perfect backdrop for meaningful conversations.
What’s coming up
There’s plenty more on the horizon. A few dates worth marking in your diary:
Joint Networking with BHBPA, EGBA & gdb 9 June
Net-Walking in the Ashdown Forest 25 June
Sip Sussex Spirits a summer evening of networking 14 July
Gatwick Business Show October

How we can help
Behind all the handshakes, the conversation always comes back to the same thing: helping businesses get found, get noticed and grow. At Phoenix Media Marketing, that’s exactly what we do from SEO and GEO (getting you visible across AI platforms like ChatGPT, Google and Claude) through to the full marketing mix that turns visibility into real results.

Wind, rain and a few hundred handshakes: our West Sussex networking round-up

Why West Sussex Businesses Are Choosing Independent Marketing Agencies Over London
If you’re a business owner in West Sussex, you’ve probably been approached by a London agency at some point. Slick deck, impressive client logos, eye-watering retainer fee. But if you’ve ever actually worked with one, you’ll know what often follows. A junior account manager you never speak to, templated strategies that could apply to anyone, and a bill that doesn’t reflect the results.

The AI Search Shift Is Already Here and Your Customers Are Already Using It
Every few years something happens in marketing that genuinely changes the rules. Mobile was one. Programmatic was another. And right now, in front of us, AI search is doing the same thing only faster, and with less warning. I’ve spent the first quarter of 2026 head-down in the data here at Phoenix Marketing HQ, looking at how people are actually finding businesses online today versus twelve months ago.

The Google March 2026 core update is now complete. Here’s what it means for local and medium-sized businesses.
Google confirmed the March 2026 Core Update was fully rolled out on 8th April. If you’ve noticed changes in your traffic, leads, or online presence recently, you’re not alone. If your traffic has dropped and you want to know why, here’s what changed, why local and mid-sized businesses are most affected, and how Phoenix Marketing has responded to help our clients succeed.
