Phoenix Media Marketing is proud to be competing in the Sussex Cancer Fund Business Charity League
From April through to August, companies go head-to-head on a LIVE JustGiving leaderboard, battling for the top position before the Final Awards Night in September. Multiple awards are up for grabs, including the overall League Champion.
As a Sussex-based marketing agency, we believe business should be bold, competitive and community-driven.
For our Managing Director, Stuart Humphrey from Haywards Heath, this cause runs far deeper than business.
Two years ago, Stuart was involved in a serious cycling accident while descending Ditchling Beacon. Traffic had stopped, and he collided with the back of a hearse. He was rushed to the hospital in the vehicle itself. At the time, he could barely stand or breathe; little did he know that he was also suffering from a brain bleed.
The situation was frighteningly real. Today, he can look back with perspective, but the experience changed him.
In 2025, he returned to the saddle to cycle 400 miles in the London Edinburgh London challenge (It was stopped short by storm Floris!), but cycled almost 6000 miles in training for the event that year. Whilst raising money for Sussex Cancer Fund in memory of his friend Cliff Ketteridge.
Stuart met Cliff through modern jive dancing. What began as a shared love of movement and music grew into a strong friendship. Cliff and his wife, Dawn, who later became taxi dancers and volunteered their time and energy to help new dancers find confidence on the floor.
They gave freely of their love of dance, welcoming beginners into the community, steadying nerves, offering smiles, and building a sense of belonging.
When Cliff was diagnosed with a brain tumour, Sussex Cancer Fund supported him and Dawn in practical and meaningful ways. They are a small local charity, but they make an enormous difference by funding research, equipping hospitals and supporting cancer patients across Sussex.
For Stuart and the Phoenix team, this campaign carries memory, gratitude and purpose.
